January 7th, 2001 Jeremy Newberry has been added to the Pro Bowl roster. Bill Walsh won this years Rozelle award. The 49ers signed cornerback Tyronne Drakeforde, a former 49er, Saint, and Redskin. The 49ers lost to Dallas. With the Saints' Loss, the 49ers have clinched a playoff spot. Garrison Hearst went over 1000 yards for the season. The Eagles are next. December 10th, 2001 The 49ers signed center Carey Clayton (UTEP) to the practice squad Steve Mariucci has taken his name out of the long list of Notre Dame coaching candidates. Kevan Barlow has returned to practise. Bob St. Clair had his number retired at half time. The Rams are next December 2nd, 2001 Jeff Garcia is the NFC Offensive Player Of The Month The 49ers will honor Alumni Bob St. Clair this Sunday. Terrell Owens may miss this weekends game. Hearst is the winnner of this weeks NFC Player of the week. He is the second 49er in a row to win this award. RB Kevan Barlow is doubtful this week DE Andre Carter is expected to return to the lineup. Terrell Owens says he will play despite sprain. The Bills Are next! November 25th, 2001 The 49ers added Milfred Stephenson to their practise squad two days after releasing him. Andre Carter is still sitting out of practise. Terrell Owens has resumed practising. The 49ers released OL Milfred Stephenson they hope to resign him to the practise squad. Jeff Garcia is now tied with Joe Montana behind YA Title for most 4th quarter comebacks in a season. The 49ers have tied a NFL record for overtime victories in a season with 3. The Colts Are Next! November 18th, 2001 Jeff Garcia's knee is in similar condition to last week. Kevan Barlow is progressing from his injury. Ben Lynch and Reggie McGrew may be available this week. 49ers Paradise extends its thoughts and prayers to former 49ers LB great Garry Plummer's son who was shot in the eye with a pellet gun this weekend. November 11th, 2001 Jeff Garcia's knee is improving. Greg Clark may miss the rest of the season. The 49ers will not try and trade Terrell Owens. Backup center Ben Lynch has returned to practise, will likely miss two more week. The 49ers face the Saints next. November 4th, 2001 Jeff Garcia will start this weekend Reggie McGew returned to practise, will not likely play. Jeremy Newberry is expected to start. In what seems to be a cost cutting maneuver to bring Rick Mirer back to the 49ers, the team released three players: DE John Milem, LB Shane Elam, and practise squad OT Mark Bristol The 49ers are considering bringing Rick Mirer back. The 49ers face the Lions next. October 28th,2001 Eddie Debartlo will not be able to make a play for the team. The York's have stated that the team is not for sale. Reggie McGrew, Ben Lynchn, Greg Clark, and Jonas Lewis are likely to continue missing games due to injuries. The 49ers terminated the contract of guard Nate Parks (Stanford) from the practice squad and replaced him with offensive tackle Mark Bristol (Mansfield). The Pro Bowl has been moved back six days to February 9th. It will be the first time the game is played on a Saturday. The 49ers signed Al Blades to the practise squad. Derek Smith is expected to play in the Bears game, Greg Clark remains in doubt. The 49ers had several players in for workouts including: tight ends Reggie Jones (Washington), Dauntae Finger (North Carolina) and Carlos Nuno (BYU), as well as cornerback Ontei Jones (Oklahoma). There are rumors that Eddie Debartlo Jr is trying to get the 49ers back from his sister. The 49ers waived safety Al Blades from the roster and activated cornerback Jimmy Williams from the practice squad. Williams was originally signed to the practice squad on September 5 after being released by the Buffalo Bills. The 49ers are off this week, but play the Bearst Next. October 14th 2001 Eddie Debartlo is interested in getting the 49ers back. Jamie Winborn set a record for rookie tackles with thirteen last week. The 49ers are hoping Jeremy Newberry can start. Garrison Hearst is eager to return to Atlanta where he was injured. Jeff Garcia wants to see the 49ers pass more often. Both centers, Jeremy Newberry and Ben Lynch are injured. 49ers play Atlanta Next. October 9th 2001 The 49ers signed former Stanford tackle Nate Parks to the practice squad. Starting LB Derek Smith injured his MCL and will miss 3-4 weeks. Reports are now confirmed that Wilson will be the 49ers third QB. Unconfirmed reports state Cederick Wilson a prolific high school passer will be the 49ers third QB. Offensive lineman Milford Stephenson has taken QB Ricky Ray’s spot on the 53-man roster. Stephenson’s elevation will add some depth to the offensive line following the injury to Newberry. Steve Mariucci has also considered moving guard Dave Fiore to the back-up center position until Newberry’s return. The 49ers have signed C/G Nathan Parks to replace Stephenson on the practice squad. Parks was waived (injury settlement) earlier in the season by the Oakland Raiders, but passed a physical with the 49ers Wednesday afternoon. The Super Bowl will be held on February 3rd allowing for a full schedule. The 49ers released 3rd String QB Ricky Ray in order to free up a roster spot for an offensive lineman. October 1st 2001 The 49ers signed Dan Goodspeed to the practise squad, just after releasing him from the regular roster. The 49ers expect Julian Peterson, Bryant Yound and Derrick Deese to all start this Monday. The 49ers have had several players in for tryouts P Andrew Bayes (East Carolina), P Kurtis Doerr (Oregon), P David Leaverton (Tennessee), LB Lemar Marshall (Michigan) and LB Donnie Spragan (Stanford). The 49ers signed David Costa. The team waived reserve offensive lineman Dan Goodspeed from the 53-man roster. The move comes one day after guard Brad Williams terminated his contract from the practice squad. Julian Peterson and Jamie Winborn are expected to play this Modnaay. September 23rd, 2001 Tight End Greg Clark will undergo more surgery on his thigh and could be out another month. The 49ersn have an elaborate pre-game ceremony planned in memory of the victims of America Under Attack. Despite missing significant practise time. JJ Stokes is likely to play this weekend. Jamie Winborn and Julian Peterson are making significant progress in their attempts to return from injury. Kicker Jose Cortez won this weeks special teams player of the week award. Eric Johnson will start at Tight End this week. The NFL refs will be back on the field this weekend. The air space over 3com will be restricted this week, that will mean no blimps a rarity for football games. JJ Stokes is questionable for this weeks game with another hamstring injury, but will likely play. Paul Smith will likely see his first regular season game this week. Julian Peterson and Jamie Winborn were upgraded to que upgraded to questionable for this game. That means there is a 50% chance they will play. Greg Clark and Jonas Lewis remain doubtful 49ers play the Rams next This weeks game against the Saints has been cancelled a decision as to whether the game will be made up later will be made some time in the near future. The 49ers waived Kevan Daft, and Jason Suttle and signed Al Blades, cornerback George McCullough, and QB Ricky Ray who was with the team in training camp. 49ers Paradise and its staff extend its wishes to the families and those who are suffering due to the terrorist attacks on the United States. Backup safety John Keith suffered an ACL injury that may keep him out all season. The 49ers take on the Saints next. September 9th, 2001 Last week the 49ers did not actually release JR. Bryant really the team placed him on the injured reserve. This week they saved 240 000 against the cap by reworking his contract. Due to Matt Willig's injury the 49ers released Al Blades from the practise squad and signed offensive lineman Milfrod Stephenson. The 49ers may re-sign Rick Mirer. Matt Willig will be out for this week due to a recent injury that occured in non-contact practise. Although it was supposed to be a surprise, Zack Bronson will start at safety. The 49ers signed DE Bobby Setzer The 49ers practise squad is as follows: DL Menson Holloway, WR Jimmy Farris, OL Brad Williams, CB Jimmy Williams, S Al Blades. The team signed defensive lineman Menson Holloway and wide receiver Jimmy Farris to the practice squad. The 49ers released S Al Blades. To create cap room the 49ers released third string QB Rick Mirer and signed QB Kevin Daft. Garrison Hearst was named starting running back. Tim Ratty has moved into the number two quarterback position. The 49ers released defensive end Jerome Davis and defensive tackle Larry Fitzpatrick. The release of the pair cleared the way for the signing of punt returner Vinny Sutherland and cornerback Jason Suttle. Garrison Hearst and Reggie McGrew restructured their contracts. The 49ers roster is now at 53 with the following cuts: OL Tyrone Hopson, S Pierson Prioleau, OT Dave Costa, WR Jimmy Farris, CB Brandon Godsey, DE Menson Holloway, WR James Jordan, K Jamie Rheem and TE Ben Steele. The 49ers are close to an agreement with RB Garrison Hearst on a new contract. The 49ers will begin their regular season this Sunday against the Falcons. September 1st, 2001 The 49ers released KR David Allen. The team signed punter Jason Baker and defensive tackle Larry Fitzpatrick. Reportedly the 49ers waived DT Cedric Killings and G Milford Stephenson. The release of Killings comes as a big surprise. The 49ers signed seventh-round draft pick linebacker Alex Lincoln to a four-year contract, though he will not play this season. The 49ers hope he will be ok for next season. Jeff Garcia will likely be held out of this weeks game. 49ers released quarterback Ricky Ray and wide receiver James Jordan. It is unlikely that Stokes, Streets, Webster, Clark or B Young will play aganist Denver. The 49ers released T Tom Ashworth, P Stephen Cheek, CB Stephen Fisher, WR Grant Heard, RB Saladin McCullough, S Brian Smith and FB Josh White. The 49ers have released Jr. Bryant after he failed a physical. Garrison Hearst is not a lock for a roster spot. Safety Al Blades and David Allen incurred slight injuries, and are probably for the Denver game. The 49ers play Denver next. August 26th, 2001 It seems unlikely that JJ Stokes and Tai Streets will play against the Seahawks. The 49ers have released WR Hilton Alexander, WR Antonio Chatman, T Rob Gattrell and KR Keith Stokes. Jonas Lewis, who's rushed for a team-high 92 yards through two games, had his sore left Achilles' tendon placed in a protective boot Thursday Rookie wide receivers Jimmy Farris and Cedrick Wilson likely will see their first action as punt returners Saturday Terrell Owens moved into Jerry Rice's locker. The 49ers must trim their roster to 65 by Sunday. The 49ers are very interested in kicker Doug Brien. The 49ers expect Lance Schulters to return this week. August 20th, 2001 The 49ers are interested in signing a veteran linebacker, the team has seemed to have narrowed it down to Roman Phifer 10-year linebacker rehabing a knee that required arthroscopic surgery several weeks ago. or veteran free agent is Terry Killens, formerly of the Tennessee Titans. The Kansas City Chiefs have signed unrestricted free agent DT Nate Hobgood-Chittick for two years. The 49ers game on Dec 22nd against the Eagles was moved an hour to two pm PST. Terry Donahue hired Jim Zeches, as a regional scout. The 49ers are on the verge of hiring former Chicago Bears director of college scouting Bill Rees to a position in their personnel department. The team is also looking to hire a scout to replace Sean Howard, who became assistant director of pro personnel with the Green Bay Packers last week. The team continues to be impressed with Garrison Hearst. The team signed Edward T. Goines as vice president of business affairs and general counsel. The 9ers signed DE Moses Harper to a free agent contract June 11th, 2001 The 49ers scheduled workouts with CB Regie Doster (XFL Orlando), LB Mat Beck (Rams), LB Terry Killings (Titans) and Jason White (Oregon State) The 49ers signed Rick Mirer The NFL and the NFLP extended their collective bargaining agreement through 2007. The new agreement will have 2007 as an uncapped year, and veterans of four years or more will be paid partially from the league, reducing the salary cap figures, and making it easier for teams to sign veterans. The 49ers are expected to sign Rick Mirer extremely soon. May 6th, 2001 As 49ers Paradise anticipated, Bill Walsh will step aside on Wednesday. The 49ers signed FB Fred Beasley and S Lance Schulters to one year deals. Bill Walsh is expected to step down this week. RB Garrison Hearst (left ankle), WR Tai Streets (right leg), TE Greg Clark (hamstrings), S Lance Schulters (right knee), DB Pierson Prioleau (left knee) and S John Keith (left knee) did not participate in drills on Friday. The trade swaps the two teams second round picks moving the 49ers from 41 to 47, sends the 49ers 3rd rounder number 71 to the packers for their third rounder number 80 and another third rounder 82. The 49ers also send their fourth rounder number 105 and get a sixth rounder 179 and seventh rounder 222. The team now has three picks in round seven and nine in total. Owens, a standout receiver for the 49ers in 1957-61 and their alumni coordinator for the past 22 years, said he will retire Saturday. He'll continue with the team as a part-time consultant. The 49ers signed street free agent QB Kevin Nawracaj. Greg Clark has reportedly agreed to a deal that will save the 49ers 500 000 against the cap. There have been encouraging reports about Garrison Hearst. The 49ers have tentatively agreed with Jr. Bryant on a contract that would save the team 1.4 million. The 49ers brought in Tim Salem this week to interview for the quarterbacks coach opening. Salem coaches quarterbacks at Ohio State. One more candidate is scheduled to come in this week. Dave Fiore is close to signing a contract extention. Winfred Tubbs is expected to be let go before March 2nd. The 49ers have targetted 12 veterans to restructure their contracts, including Bryant Young, Junior Bryant, Dave Fiore, Terrell Owens, Derrick Deese, Ken Norton, Ray Brown, Greg Clark, J.J. Stokes, Reggie McGrew and Garrison Hearst. Reports on the 49ers expect the team to tender Fred Beasley a contract that would make him virtually untouchable by other teams. An MRI on Junior Bryant revealed no change in the acute ruptured disk Bryant sustained Sept. 17 against St. Louis. Bryant still has another six months to rehabilitate from the injury, but if his condition doesn't improve, he won't receive clearance to play again. Jerry Rice has now also expressed interest in playing for the Lions now that Mornhinweg will be there. A recent report states that Jerry Rice, in an interview with XTRA 910 Sports Radio, in Phoenix, Arizona, stated that he would be interested in playing for the Arizona Cardinals in 2001 if they call him. He stated he'd like to play with QB Jake Plummer. Rice, who is currently under contract, is likely to be released later this year Reports say Bill Walsh has spoken to Steve Bono about replacing Knapp as our QB Coach. January 31st, 2001 Marty Mornhinweg has agreed in principle to a five year deal to be the head coach of the Lions. He has cancelled his trip to meet with the Browns. June 24th, 2000 The 49ers are likely to sign eight year veteran, former 49ers, DE, Roy Barker. The 49ers have re-signed S Zack Bronson to a one-year contract. Bronson had been a restricted free agent tendered at $472,000. The team waived the following undrafted free agents: DT Bo Barzilauskas, DT James Brumbaugh, CB Drae Harris, S Tracy Hart, S B.J. May 29th, 2000 The 49ers are reportedly getting really close to a new contract agreement with Jerry Rice. Former 49ers defensive back, Craig Newsome, has decided to coach at a lower level for the time being. He will likely return to the NFL for training camps. May 21st, 2000 The 49ers are getting even closer to changeing Rice's contract thereby keeping him in SF until he retires. The 49ers are very interested in re-signing OL Jeff Buckey, especially now that Fiore will be gone until training camp. Buckey is a good player and will add much needed depth to the OL. First however the 9ers will have to clear some cap room. The 49ers are concerned about Fiore's surgery. The 49ers and Jerry Rice seem to close to a deal that would keep Rice in SF for the remainder of his career.
